Description

This traditional quilt block pattern includes 3″, 6″ and 9″ instructions (finished sizes).

The Shoo Fly is my favorite traditional block, a 9-patch variation originating around 1850. It was named after a wild plant called Clover Broom or “Shoo-Fly”. Juices from the plant were mixed with milk to attract and kill flies.

Its simplicity makes it a block commonly used to teach new quilters the basics of piecing, even earlier in the history of American quilting.
